This week I wanted to sit down and just have a conversation about authenticity, vulnerability, and how they relate to business. See, there's something I need to share about me that you may not know, especially if you're just a podcast listener. It's important that you know this particular detail, because if we're going to spend time together, and if you're going to let me hang out with you, every week on this podcast, then you should know who I am.
Also, you should know my point of view on entrepreneurship. That's the whole point of this podcast is I spend a lot of time talking about what I see, what I've learned, and how I can help other entrepreneurs avoid some of the common problems that they'll face as they grow and scale their business. I talk about my point of view a lot.
I don't talk very often about me and who I am, and about some of the details of me in my life that you may want to know before you decide if you're going to spend this time with me via the podcast. I think I owe it to you, the people who show up every week to hear what I have to say and hang out with me.
I owe it to you to be authentic and genuine.
What's tricky about this is that authenticity, in my mind, means transparency. Transparency requires a willingness to be vulnerable. Today, I'm going to tell you something about me that makes me feel really vulnerable.
I see a lot in social media and with coaches and with online creators, a lot of manufactured authenticity, where they pretend that they are being themselves. It's a nice, clean, filtered version of themselves, if that makes sense.
Don't get me wrong, I do not want to see people, and certainly no one wants to see me, when they wake up first thing in the morning. Some things are just best left not seen publicly.
If I'm going to be me, then you need to know who the “me” is that you're listening to and that you're talking to.
Manufactured authenticity, versus true authenticity. It's the willingness to show the parts of you that maybe people wouldn't know, unless they sat and had a conversation with you, or that you went and met for coffee, or those sort of intimate moments. Not super intimate, but friendly, intimate.
I want to share with you something that makes me feel vulnerable.
The thing you should know about me, if we're going to be friends, if we're going to hang out here in the podcast, if you're going to ever consider working with me, following me, hanging out with me online or in person anything is you should know that…
I am a Christian intuitive.
What exactly is a Christian intuitive? That means that I am Christian, first of all, and second of all, I have spiritual gifts. Let me break each of those down separately for you.
I'm Christian, which means that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, I believe he is God incarnate, and that He died for our sins. And as is written in First Corinthians 12, I have gifts of the Spirit. This is where the spiritual gifts part comes in.
My particular gift is the gift of knowledge. So this is not intellectual knowledge, like being particularly smart. My gift and the way it shows up for me is that it's an ability to understand someone else's emotions and fears. I can feel the energy and the emotions that other people are either experiencing or have experienced. Because I can feel them, I have insights into what's really going on with them at a deeper level.
In the spiritual or “woo woo” community, I would be called a psychic medium. That's the term that they use to describe these particular gifts that I have. For me, because I am Christian, I like the term Christian intuitive.
Part of that gift is that, as I said, I can feel what's going on with other people. It's a knowing. It's just an understanding that I have, if that makes sense. Since I am an empath, I connect to people. Because I have these gifts, I also connect to the spiritual realm.
This is who I am. Despite never mentioning this on the podcast before, I fully own this part of myself. Of course, you might be asking, “If you fully own it, why have you not talked about it on the podcast? Why would you not be more open about it, if it's just a part of who you are?”
Here's what has literally kept me from speaking about this before. It's on my website. I am very direct about it on my website before anybody schedules a session for me. It says I'm a Christian intuitive on the page where you go to book it. My clients know this, because by the time they've booked a call, and we've had a breakthrough session, and then work their coaching package, they know that I've uncovered their emotional block, and something that felt really hidden and not connected, and unrelated. Once they realize how connected and related it is to their struggle that's showing up in their business. They know that they understand how this works, because they've experienced it. They're able to almost connect pieces that previously seemed completely disconnected and unrelated. They didn't even have awareness about the two problems and how the problem and the actual problem, the perceived problem and the actual problem come together. That's the gap that I fill. I use these gifts to help them see what that space is in between. Then I coached them through implementing and understanding and improving on that process.
What's kept me from really talking about it on the podcast, or really even talking about it a whole lot is that I don't know how to explain it. That’s why on Episode 2, which is the podcast where I talk about my story, I didn't mention it there. I didn't explain it really anywhere else. Even on social media. I don't talk about it, not because I'm ashamed. I just don't know how to explain it in a way that would persuade anyone who is a naysayer, or is confused, or wants to know the logical, tangible, practical explanation. I can't give you that, because for me, it just is what it is.
Just like I can't explain to you how the exact genetic sequencing came together for me to have green eyes, I can show you the proof of it. I can explain it in scientific terms that I understand. If you really wanted me to get into the nitty gritty at a molecular level of how it works, it would be a very short and very uninteresting conversation, because the truth is, I can't really explain it like that.
The fact that I couldn't fully express how this works has held me back in so many ways from simply saying, “hey, this exists, and this is who I am.”
At this point, I figured out that I can't, I haven't, I'm not going to come to a good explanation, or logical reasoning or practical application anytime soon. I've decided to just accept that if I'm meant to explain it, it will come down to either people will understand or they won't. Rather than letting the people who will misunderstand me hold me back from showing up fully for you, on this podcast, I'm just going to accept that some people are going to misunderstand me. You know what? I'm okay with that.
I've reached the point in this podcast, where I do want to talk about some of the spiritual topics that affect business that affect your business, they affect my business, and I think they affect everyone's business.
I talk a lot about how positive thinking and “good vibes only” are not a way to reach success to grow. They can be extremely helpful. There are tools, but you can also use tools to try to circumvent important processes and experiences that we're meant to have on our self development journey.
As you know, I believe success begins within. As we improve ourselves as we develop ourselves as humans, those results, that improvement shows up externally in all areas of our life, including our business. I really want to start talking about topics such as the energetics of money, and the concept of human design and how it can absolutely help you avoid pitfalls, avoid burnout and make better decisions. All of these are important to me, they've changed my business, they're part of my own experience and my own journey.
If I'm willing to guide you down your journey, using my own journey, as an example, and the journey of my clients, then I have to be totally open and honest about all of it. There's a lot of spiritual things that I can't explain, but that are true for me, and that I see creating results for my clients, for my peers, for my friends, and I want to share them with you.
Don't get me wrong. This podcast is and always will be a podcast of practical and actionable insights for entrepreneurs. Now,it's going to have some super practical information, but with a spiritual flair. Whether that spiritual flair is overt or not, I'm not going to worry about it. It is just what it is.
I'm bringing to you the things I think you can use to best grow and scale your business. I'm committed to your success.I'm going to bring you all of the topics, the people, the concepts and the experiences that I think will help you reach your next level of success.
For some of you, if this is where we part ways, if you are uncomfortable with listening to a Christian intuitive, give practical insights on business experiences. Then Godspeed, my friend. I wish you much love and much blessings and overwhelming success as you grow and scale your business.
For those of you that are going to hang out and continue hanging out with me here on the podcast each week, I send you my heartfelt thanks.
